Webinar with Rebekah Agwunobi
Sunday, October 18 @ 3pm PST

Rebekah Agwunobi is a sophomore at Columbia University majoring in Computer Science. She is an NCWIT 2018 National Award Winner, Caroline D. Bradley Scholar, and Stanford AI4ALL alumna. Her research interests primarily lie in pretrial justice and critiquing how existing carceral AI solutions can exacerbate social issues, such as racism and data extraction in over-criminalized communities. In addition, she is deeply passionate about making STEM accessible to underrepresented minorities and women. She organized hackathons in high school and is involved primarily in debate, research, and advocacy-oriented initiatives in college. After college, she hopes to pursue research at the intersection of CS and the lived-experiences of people of color and women.

Katherine Sizov is the founder of Strella Biotechnology, which is a biosensing platform that can predict the ripeness of fruit. Her technology helps ensure fruit quality throughout every segment of the supply chain by predicting shelf life of food. The investment currently works with food packers to expand into the retail distribution market. Mark Cuban best known from the ABC series “Shark Tank” was one of the investors in this agriculture biotech startup founded by Sizov. She has graduated from UPenn with majors in molecular biology and chemistry as well as engineering entrepreneurship. Katherine has also won the University of Pennsylvania President’s Innovation Prize.
